Kyocera Receiver Tuner Issue

I am the proud owner of a Kyocera R-851. This model, and other Kyocera receivers, have tuner issues that are mentioned in several places on this site.

Has anyone documented what the issue is? At that, has anyone been able to fix it?

I would love to be able to fix mine, these are exceptional items. Any feedback would be well appreciated.

I does not seem able to pick up any stations. Even after attaching an antenna, it just static. The scan function just goes through all of the frequencies. This seems to be a common problem with these units.

I have a R-461, the smaller version of your R-851. I've owned two and neither one had/has stellar FM reception. I've tried cleaning the FM section with Deoxit with noticeable improvement. It also seems to get better reception with Tuning set to manual (vs. auto). I live in an area with poor FM signal strength. FM is line of sight so if you're in an area lacking that, reception will suffer. I've tried boosted antennas with little improvement. I use a flat window mounted antenna that seems to work best. Honestly, I rarely listen to FM because (IMHO) it's mostly crap. I enjoy the receiver for it's other strengths. They are exceptionally well made. All my gear is Kyocera. Wouldn't own anything else.
