Kyocera = Kyoto Ceramics. Technical ceramics (similar to Coors Tech) is/was their principal business. They dabbled in hifi for a while, then gave up.

No connection with Kyocera that I'm aware of. Both still exist.

They're probably best known in the US these days for their printers.

My brother had an early Kyocera CDP. Vertical loading. Very nice indeed.

IIRC, the 310 CDP is also the heartier of the several models they made. I've had the 301 and the 601 and both were sweet sounding units

I had the r-851 receiver as well,,,,also one of there cd players up the line some was quite good had a remote as well.Sold it to a buddy that still uses it today.
When I was researching it I believe the story went like this,,,young Japanese audiophile type dude meets the daughter of a wealthy businessmen ,gets married and I guess the father in law got tired of the new son-inlaw hanging around doing didlly so to get him off his ass he financially backed Kyocera for the kid.
It was well regarded and well made SS gear and was not sold in large numbers over here in N.A.

I collect the cdp's as their a near perfect match for my Pioneer receivers with the silver fronts and wood sides, they are very good units and very expensive when they were new. I can say when working right they sound as good as anything I've heard at any price. The 310 cdp here is the very botl of their players but still pretty dang good...Roost

I have their 100wpc integrated amp, the A-710. I really like the sound and punch of this unit. Its currently running in my vintage setup which consists of a Pioneer pl-600 (silver) turntable, a McIntosh C2200 pre (not vintage)! A sony dvp s9000es with a PS Audio dac, and a pair of ESS AMT 1a speakers. The Kyocera more than holds its own in this setup. Kyocera is a great brand which is under the radar for most people which is good for us!
