L100T3 with "Formica" looking cabs

I stopped at a thrift store that was new to me yesterday. I was back in my old neighborhood to pick up some tires for my son's bicycle and this store was not there when I lived in the area.
Anyway, I spotted a pair of JBL L100T3's with what looked like laminate cabinets. I was not familiar with this variant of the L100, so I left them to continue on my mission. When I got home and read up on them, I realized that I should have picked them up in spite of their need of woofer foam. What I hae not found is any reference to "Formica" or anything like it instead of wood veneer. Is this a JBL option or an aftermarket thing?

Sounds like they added the formica . . . . good speakers though at the right price and most people like them better then the L100 because of the Titanium tweeter.

Apparently there was a version called the L100S which was sold on military bases. I just missed picking up a pair on Craigslist for $40.

I looked like a Formica, not "Vinyl Veneer". It was very smooth and dense looking, sort of like a counter top or furniture from the 70's, not that contact paper. Maybe the light tricked me. Badge was L100T3, 95% sure. If they are still there today, they are coming home with me and I will send pics. Was the L100S covered with the typical looking vinyl or some kind of unobtanium military spec grade?

My L100S had your typical walnut veneer vinyl. Those (if they are) L100T3's) will even sound better. But the L100S are very nice! Go get em' and good luck!

Well, looks like I dropped the ball again. Went back to the thrift, and you guessed it, they were gone.:tears: I should have dashed back up there last night, but didn't know the hours.
