Labor Day Weekend Songs about work

Working Man's Dead

That's not a song...!

;-)

EDIT: How 'bout Cumberland Blues... that's about working (partly).

Speaking of working in mines... there's always Mining for Gold, covered to brilliant effect by the Cowboy Junkies on Trinity Session.

Which brings to mind..
[Working on a] Chain Gang
Working on a Building
Sixteen Tons (mentioned already I think)
Big John
Timothy (trapped miners eat one of their buddies!)
New York Mining Disaster 1941 (The Bee Gees!)
John Henry ("Gonna die with a hammer in my hand, Lord, Lord...")

Dead Kennedys - At My Job
The Vines - Factory
Fountains of Wayne - Bright Future In Sales
Fountains of Wayne - Hey Julie
Bob Dylan - Workingman's Blues #2

A few late additions:
Get A Job - Silhouettes
Blue Collar - BTO
Workin' My Way Back To You - Four Seasons
Five O'Clock World - Vogues
We Can Work It Out - Beatles

Re: "Five O'Clock World" - The Vogues

I also enjoy the cover version by one of England's zaniest - Julian Cope.

People need to be reminded what this holiday is about. A good education can be had by listening to just about anything by Woody Guthrie. "Songs of Labor and Struggle" is not the worst place to start.

The Miracles- Got A Job(End) 1958

The Royals/Midnighters- Work With Me Annie (Federal) 1954......Well, that's really not WORK!
