Hey -- First post here! So exciting to see this forum, and it has been helpful so far in my repairs!

I have a Lafayette LR-5000 tuner/receiver that I just did a thorough cleaning on. All switches and pots now operating nicely.

However, I do still have my volume issues. When phono, aux or tuner inputs are selected, I have to crank it up to the 12-2 o'clock position to get some decent volume. And once I get past 3 o'clock, its about the same at 100% turn.

The flip side is, when I use my tape monitor input (say with a separate phono pre or rca->mini plug for my phone), I only have to crank it to about the 9 o'clock position (or even if that, just barely turned) to get nice full volume. Wondering why the discrepency between the tape in/out and the other switched inputs

Check if your tape monitor switch is activated. If it is, switch it off, & try a different input (FM or CD). Then report back.
 
Both tape monitor switches off. Still lower volume for aux, phono and tuner. Thx for the reply. Any other ideas?
 
This forum is for the tuner (radio) section of your receiver. Moving post to Solid state.
 
I have seen switches get so oxidized that they just don't pass the signal . I am not sure if this unit has one, but look for a -20db attenuator switch like some of the higher end pioneers.
Also check to see if the unit has a switch for seperate pre out/main in, or connected pre out/main in.
Also any 4 channel function switches need to be checked.
If the schematic or Service manual was available I would look at the circuits to see if I could identify something, but I can find any available other than one for sale at $20 plus shipping.
Aux, and tape in are usually inputs treated as the same as far as level. So if you get good level on tape in, but poor on aux in, I would almost think it has to be a switch problem.
 
I have a Lafayette LR-5000 with nice clean pots, but, the remote speakers won't work nor does 4 channel function.

I know there was a separate board for the remotes. Is there anything I might try for the 4-channel function?
