Lafayette T2000 - CEC build?

Question for the turntable gurus here: There's a Lafayette T2000 turntable up for sale locally, at what I consider a good price -- that is, if my understanding of these tables is correct. I've read that the t2000 is essentially a Marantz 6100, also built by CEC in the heyday of 70s mass market mid-fi turntables, and just rebranded for Lafayette -- and fetching a considerably lower price in the vintage market 50 years later.

First off, is that correct, that it's essentially the same baby?

Second, would anyone here have an opinion as to whether the CEC-built SANYO TP 825D would be a step up sonically from the Lafayette 2000 / Marantz 6100?

Trying to make a buying decision today that comes down to 150 for the Lafayette vs 250 for the SANYO. Both have been recently serviced and cleaned. THANKS in advance.

The only biggest difference is the antiskate between the two. Personally, without knowing the cartridges, I would take the Lafayette and save the money.

The M70 is a decent cartridge, though a tad ugly looking. Don't know if what aftermarket stylus is on it. But, I will assume whatever was cheapest to get.

For $100, you can get a brand new ATVM95E.

I find these comparisons interesting. The Marantz 6100, by the way, was built by Fujiya ... not CEC. I suspect the Lafayette is a CEC build ... for one thing it has that classic CEC tonearm (which, by the way the 6100 doesn't have).

Hello everyone, I was installing new feet on my Lafayette T-2000 yesterday, as I removed the bottom cover,there was a little sticker on it that read.(Fujiya Electric Company, LTD.) Made in Japan Model IM-S270-15B2?I know some posted about,Marantz,Luxman,Radio Shack,well you can add this one,to TT'S they made.It is a Great player.Bought it from an older woman in Glastonbury, had it in a glass case,clean as anything. Also came with LR-5555a,and Criterion 2001a speakers, they were bought as an all in one Package she said, out of Lafayette Catalog.I purchased these in 2015.
