Kenwood orig.(1960s) then a 50% owned Lafayette company in Japan called Planet Research(LR1500 etc),later Luxman. I was a store manager for them (Manchester Ct.) 1971-1976-really good company.

WOW! Finally I have found someone that knows their Lafayette gear. Your the man Rick. :ntwrthy: This is the first time I have seen someone get the answer right.
Back in the early 70's the local Lafayette store was right down the street from me and I often hung out there and drooled over the equipment. It started a fascination with audio that continues today. I have a pretty decent pile of Planet Research era stuff, which I consider to be the true Lafayette gear.

Most would answer that Lafayette was rebadged Pioneer stuff but that was limited to the very late 70's, just before Lafayette closed their doors. The rebadged Pioneers looked just like.....Pioneers (duh) which makes them easy to spot.

In answer to the original post, if it's early70's it was designed by Lafayette and made by Planet Research.

Interesting information! And to think, in my High school days(early '70s) we referred to them as "Laughalot"! I wish I had a couple of those old pieces now!

I was a Radio Shack store manager during the Allied Electronics acquistion in1971-72.
We had the rebadged Pioneer recievers under the Allied name. I had an Allied 395 which was way cool, it even had the funky Pioneer speaker plugs. It made my Optimus 5 speakers sit up and talk, heh, heh.

I stumbled across this on the web today then found this thread. Uploading for future historians... Does look like 1970s Kenwood gear!
