thanks Njord..... i must have copied the wrong address , thanks for you posting actual link .

yes..... they are worth going after , dont wait

I am in contact with the seller and now trying to work it out with a friend to pick them up. I'm going to be in Chicago next Tuesday and the seller was a really friendly guy and said it would be not problem to wait until then, "as long as they haven't sold."

So, here's hoping I can get something hammered out with my Chicago friend before they do.

Phew. Pending the seller's not changing his mind and selling them to someone else, I have them all set up to be picked up tomorrow and I will be able to get them when I'm in Chicago next Tuesday.

This will be (cross your fingers/knock on wood, etc.) my first good pair of true vintage speakers, so I'm pretty excited! I've been using Pioneer CG-xxxxs from the 80s up til now.

Are those nice speakers? I have never heard Advents.
Depends. For many, the fried-egg tweeter is a compromised design that sounds harsh and very fatiguing. Others find the bass a bit bloated with poor definition (muddy). Yet, there are a great many people who love these speakers and don't hear those issues or aren't bothered by them. You'll really need to give a pair a long audition to determine if you'll like them or not. If you belong to the first camp and can't stand the tweeter, but still rather like the bass, then watch for a pair of 5012s. Those have the same, nice looking cabinet and the same woofer, but with a much improved dome tweeter.

(Quote from Bold Eagle )
Later production had a 16 uF high pass filter cap, and an 8 uF bypass cap. I highly recommend this later configuration. If your Advents have 2 of the 16 uF caps, it's the earlier production. OK, so which of the two 16 uF caps do you change to 8? It's the one placed above the switch. It runs from the center terminal of the switch on the upper side, to a terminal on the Masonite board, and from there to the tweeter. The one that has to stay at 16 uF runs from the input terminal to the far end of the switch on the lower row of connections. I hope that's clear.

( also copied from another post ) ...Early models (up to about 1975) have a 16uF cap. on the tweeter and later ones have an 8uF cap.

The effect of replacing the 16uF with an 8uF is to reduce the lower frequency load on the tweeter (lets less lower frequencies through).

This may have been a change to lessen the frequencies of tweeter failure in the field
