Large advents vs. 5002s vs. Maestros vs. Legacys?

I know the Large advents and the Advent 5002s (and 5012s) are very close- is the addition of the dome tweeter that much of a sound improvement in the 5002/12s? And how about reliability over the originals? What about these vs. the Jensen-run Advent Legacys? And what about the Legacys vs. the 3-way version, the Maestros? How's that odd donut mid on the Maestros sound? If you put some glazing and some choco-sprinkles on it, I'd like to take a bite out of it. But how's it sound, man?

Primarily I'm interested in the differences in the original design style of the Large Advents and the 5002s and 5012s, vs. the Legacys and Maestros.

I've owned the original large advents, the "new advent" the 5002 and the legacy. Between the large advent and the new advent, the new advent seems brighter. Between those two and the 5002/5012 the 5002 seems a little less harsh and smoother on the top end. I'm guessing this is what kloss wanted with the dome tweeter. The difference between the 5002 and the 5012 is that the 5002 is more like a 'utility' version as it has vinyl covered mdf, whereas the 5012 is a waulnut veneer covered cabinet much like the 'new advent' made in 78.

In comparison with the other advents (minus the maestros) the legacies I thought to be disappointing. Don't get me wrong they are good sounding speakers, I just thought the legacies to be lacking in midrange and to have more of a rock sound than the east coast advent sound I was familiar with. The build quality on the legacies is also not as good as the traditional advents

Personally, I have never heard the maestros because I believed that jensen took away what the advents really were with that model: a two way design. Advents have always been traditionally a two way speaker that was supposed to sound as good as the three way. If I ever fin a pair, I will most certainly give them a listen, but I suspect that they will simply not be as good as the originals.

After the 5002 series when jensen took over the styles changed. Before alsmost all advents looked the same. Now a more comtemporary style was made to suit the late 80s and 90s. The same type of 10" woofer was used and the cabinet volume remained the same as the traditional advents. However the build quality of internal components just isn't as great as the older models.

Hope this is helpful.
