LaScalla II question

Newbie here.
I'm amazed by my new system but I have a question about bass response.
The LaScalla in my room push out a lot of air a higher listening levels but at quieter levels they seem a bit weak on the bottom end at my listening position. I notice a lot of bass when you are very close or beside the speakers. I have them toed in toward the listening position and about 1 ft from the back wall.

Any thoughts?

I have the LS II's. MAC equipment too.

The scalas need to be pointed right at your listening position and will shine with bass more in the corner.

If I walk around the room......the bass is different and too much room differences come into play.

I demoed them at a store and the bass was terrible from the listening position. But when I stepped forward 2 feet...it was great.

So play with the position some more.

It sounds to me like you're suffering from the annoying effects of room modes. Moving the speakers might help a little bit, but usually you'll notice more dramatic changes by moving the listening position.

Do you only hear more bass in the front corners, or do you have bass build-up elsewhere? (like the rear corners of the room).

Equal loudness is probably not the issue here unless highly compressed music is being listened to (or basically any music that was recorded in a manner not intending to replicate the sound of the natural instruments). Our minds are cool in that they automatically compensate for equal loudness (A cello is supposed to sound a certain way when it's quieter than when it's louder).

I only seem to have the excess bass right at the front corners, nowhere else in the room. My room is odd shaped in that the listening area is really a rectangle that has alcoves or wings coming off of it. Last night I pushed them right back into the corners but still kept them toed in and that was a nice improvement. It wiil be hard to play with the listening position since we have 4 home theater chairs in a row. I have plans for a sub and I think that is all that i will need to take me to LaScala bliss. I met an acoustic expert thru a jobsite and he is willing to drop by and give me a few pointers about acoustic treatments.

This is fun

When choosing a sub be very carefull the Lascala is a very fast speaker and most subs are very slow (boomy). If the sub can not keep pace it will sound very disconnected. Placement with the sub will also be crucial as will fine tuning the crossover and output levels. If you can hear the sub then something is wrong with your settings, placement or its not a good match.
