So I run across this ad for a 40's speaker in cabinet for $100. The cabinet is big so figured I can't lose. Head up there after work, pay the very young kid his $100, and load it up. I didn't even bother to look at it, just felt the grill cloth to see it was a single 15" driver. $100 for an old 15? Can't lose... Much anyway... Well, I get it home and grab my flashlight. A quick shine through the cloth reveals a glimpse of a multicell horn in the middle of the 15. Altec for sure at this point. Popped the back cover off hoping for a 604... Nope! You sneaky Altec, you're a 603B!!
The gamble was obviously going to pay off, just wasn't sure by how much. In this case, not a lot, but still worth the effort. Not a very common driver at all but not much to write home about either. Listened to it free air for a while last night. I guess it makes some midrange anyway...
