Late 1960's Fisher Console

My dad wants me to take his MINT Fisher ss console and put in my house. I used to listen to this as a kid. It will rock the house but it is early solid state. What is the consensus here about early Fisher solid state amps. He bought it at the end of the tube era because is was the state of the art back then. What do you think? Keeper? Pass?
BTW, I am a tube junky.

If it's mint and you've got the room (and your better half doesn't mind) I say take it.

However, if you really wouldn't be using it and your dad doesn't care one way or the other, see if it's ok to put on craigslist.

Fishers from that era are usually quite desirable. :yes: Unless the style is ghastly, I'd be all over it. If nothing else, they make great stands for a new flat-screen TV.

Post some more details such as model # and pics and someone here will probably know all about it.

I have an early SS receiver out of a Philharmonic that is quite nice looking. Aluminum knobs, and chrome faceplate........ cabinet wasn't designed very well acoustically. That could be fixed, Though, if yours is similar. In short, I would automatically reject it, just because it's not a tube unit. As far as sound, it needs work, so I haven't listened to it recently...... bad caps, I'm sure.

The late 60's FISHERS, took a receiver, removed the case, in a lot of instances removed the "heatsink" from the outputs and built a metal box around the amp that substituted for the heatsink. Other than that the receivers are identical.

A few of the cabinets are really GAUDY. But generally fall in line with what everyone else was building at the time.
