I consider my ADS L300c's to be my favorite small speakers (of the ones I own or have much experience with). I listen to them for almost 8 hours each day at work. I added a subwoofer to the setup, and it's even better. They always impress and never cause fatigue, as I experience from many speakers.
I picked up a pair of AR Fun Partner speakers from Goodwill a few weeks ago at a price that was impossible to pass up. I remember these from back in the day and always thought they were pretty cool looking, so I was glad to get a pair to play with. At first, one appeared dead, but for whatever reason, it came back to life. The cabinets were pretty grubby, and the grills are still stained, though they are much better after two cleanings. It took a while to finally get the grills removed, and I was amazed at how filthy the drivers were. Either dust is coming from the insulation inside the speakers, or they were used in a paper shredding facility! It was almost packed between the baffle and the grill. A soft paintbrush and canned air got that taken care of, however. These have rubber vs foam surrounds, which is definitely nice.
With an old Sony STR-7025, they sound really good. They definitely don't have much in the way of bass, which is no surprise from a 4" woofer. The highs are nice and crisp but don't bother me like many speakers do. They definitely grew on me, most likely due to the imaging. I ended up listening to them for a couple hours and had that feeling I get from certain music on certain systems. No, they are not comparable to my L300c's or L780/2's or several other larger speakers I have. The are, however, quite enjoyable. I'm not sure where I'll use them, but their size and price makes that OK, despite the cheesy name 'Fun Partner'! I'm curious if many here have had much experience with these or the powered versions. (For some reason, the one pic is upside down despite being correctly oriented in the actual image).
