Leak Amplifiers?

I'll definitely be taking them to a tech somewhere.

One other thing,
How much other equipment do I need to actually make use of these?

So I guess I need:

Power cables - Don't have them, but I think I can find some
Speakers - I've got a set of IMF Super Compacts will they be compatible? I don't know what impedence they are and I don't know what impedence the amps work with.
Speaker cable - do I need any special ones?
Preamp - This is the main problem, I might be able to find the original matching ones, but if not, what can I use?

Good advice you got here. You've lucked on the find of a lifetime...well, almost. I of course concur. Don't power them up, no matter how tempting. You'll also need power cords with bulgin-type bakelite plugs. Shown here, is my Leak Stereo 20 (only 10W/ch) which is quite capable of raising the roof with efficient speakers. There's no danger of leaking caps provided NO power up.

My advice FWIW, google for as much info as possible until you know all about your find. Be very careful who you choose to recap and make other repairs, if needed. Most likely, some resistors are also not up to spec any longer.

My own Leak amp is one of 4pcs of Leak tube equipment I own and with exception of the pre-amp, is incomparable.

Good luck with eventual switch on.

IMF super compacts, I remember those Kef B200+ 5" EMI +Peerless 1" soft dome. Should be wonderful with your Leak amps.
 
Power cables - Your tech may be able to help you source some.
Speaker cable - 16 gauge lamp cord will do the trick. Fancier stuff optional.
Preamp - If you can't find the original, a simple passive preamp cobbled together out of a 100K stereo potentiometer and a couple pairs of RCA connectors might be all you need if you intend to use a CDP as your source. Otherwise you'll also need a phono pre for vinyl.

Just had a thought, you need to fid someone really good to do those amps. We would like to see the result, you may like to mention that the finished amps will be displayed here.

That might be a positive to getting a good job done. Ask him to keep all the old parts and return them to you. Some guys may like to replace your tubes with new cheap ones and keep the Mullards for themselves.

That happened to me years ago when I had a tube Fender repaired.

Pete has repaired two guitar amps for a friend and myself, he was very fast but I've heard mixed things about him on the internet, and I don't know how good he is at restorations.
 
Bluberry look nice, but unless they are experienced in Leak, Quad Radford Hi Fi, perhaps not.

I remember Bardwells of Sheffield, electropnics, components etc. Still there I believe.

Do go to that Vintatge radio forum. I am sure that you will get terrific info.

I stayed at Shore Lane near the A57?, Hallam Tower Hotel was near I think.

I have a stereo 50 on my bench now. Should be firing it up a little later today. This one has had a modification performed to the phase inverter & driver that I'll have to sort out and see if it performs well. In theory the modification should be great....but theories can be deceiving !!

Those are TL25+ amplifiers.
They are keepers !!! no doubt about it.
This is coming from a guy that has used a Leak Stereo 50 for 30 years.
I would do a carefull refurb, modifying a Leak is a sin in my opinion
They will knock your socks off, I thought an easy match for a Marantz 8b.
Once you hear Leaks on Tannoy Reds, you will never be the same.

Wow I completely forgot about this! Been really busy over the last few years and never got around to doing anything with the amps since they went into storage. I'm not sure I've got the matching equipment to do this justice and I'm a poor student now - is it viable to sell them as a restoration project for somebody else?

Abosulutely,They are worth a pretty penny unrestored.
post in dollars and sense for opinions as to worth,another source is the well known auction site"completed auctions"
 
I saw a couple of TL50s (in spares/repairs condition) go for an obscene amount of cash. But no TL25s have been sold recently it seems! Are the values of the TL50 and TL25 comparable?
