Leak Stereo 20, Modded

Here's another one you don't see everyday, a Leak Stereo 20. Neat little British amp, brought up to todays standards. Sounds amazing.

Push pull 6BQ5 / EL84 (Mullard ProComm), 10wpc. 5AR4 rectifier, and 12AX7 (Telefunken) on the front end.

Upgraded with Sonicaps in the signal path, Cardas rca inputs, Cardas milled solid copper binding posts, and a power on / off switch was added to the rear. The stock power socket was retained, but the stock cord upgraded with the same termination to help maintain it's original appearance.

4/8/16 ohm taps adjustable on top of the output trannies via a simple jumper, as is votlage setting on the power tranny.

Cheers,
Russ

Those Stereo 20´s are fetching some high prices in the UK now.
Great performers. Yours looks great BTW, Russ.

WOW beautiful unit there Russ, And those trannies look very beefy for an EL84 based
amp. I'll bet she sounds pretty sweet, I like the tube compliment as well.

Sweeeet! There's some special magic when you give an EL84 plenty of iron. I bet the bass is excellent. :thmbsp:

I have never really seen a clean example of the Leak Stereo 20. Man, that sure looks nice.

By seeing the undercarriage exposed I have come to one conclusion. The guy the did the wiring layout was not the same guy the designed my old Sherwood tube amps.

Thanks for the comments.

Actually, re: the underside - I have NEVER seen a Leak with a bottom plate - mine didn't have one, the others I've seen didn't either. Has anyone seen a bottom plate attached?

I have one with the bottom plate. The plate looks like 16Ga galvanised with slot vents and small bumps for feet. It was in a console with a point one pre and a troughline tuner. They were all dusty but otherwise mint.

Just a thought, on my Stereo 20 the power supply caps were completely knackered, both physically and electrically leaky. I replaced them with JJs.

Might want to watch that- a shorted cap will fry rectifier and power transformer...
