Hi all. I am new to your site and to repairing stereos in general. I've replaced belts, speaker caps and some basic components on about 20 or so machines but this one has me stumped.
I have a Lear Jet Stereo 8 (model H-459) and it's in absolutely beautiful cosmetic condition... and all the lights and mechanical stuff works perfectly (thank Eru) but the volume knob and balance knob don't don't turn the volume down. It's maximum volume out of both speakers no matter what. There are also a bass and treble knob. They don't seem to do anything either. There are also 4 large transistors in the back of the machine (Sanyo 2SB474). Is it possible these are burned out or screwy in some way that would cause this behavior. I already blasted the pots good with contact cleaner and at least now the crackles are gone but it didn't help the problem.
