Led Zeppelin Explained

I attribute the author's continual berating of excessive length and hysterical screaming of say "Dazed and Confused" to a misunderstanding of Rock and Roll, which is at its core about excess.

Maybe a better title for the thread would be Led Zeppelin Explained?

That's what I was thinking while reading. Funny to me that a writer for Slate can make a big deal of something being over done and yet half baked! Everything I read from Slate I guess is by and for new age hipsters.

But then I guess it wasn't really intended for us old geezers that really didn't need an explanation in the first place.

(oh lord, must be one of my slightly cynical days coming on!)

Not that I needed it, but the article is a fairly accurate synopsis of their history and the critical disdain they received. The author's opinions of the songs and albums are just that and not shared by Yours Truly. The article's glaring omission from my POV is how different and how good they were live. They carried their own water, so to speak. No warm up acts. 3 1/2 hour performances that left you blissfully exhausted, spent, completely wrung out.
