Left a major imprint on jazz music. Great records come from great performances and he captured them beautifully. Rest in peace brother.

Aww. Am sad to hear this but he lived a life!

There are some great stories about his recording sessions at his parent's apartment. A master of microphone placement!

What a legacy he leaves behind - what a career. And in spite of his age, its sad to see him go. He was one of the last connections ro ao many departed jazz legends. Not only did he record their music, he got to learn the artists intentions behind it. Rudy knew the feel, sound and message these players were trying to convey.

That's what made the RVG Series so compelling. And while audiophiles may whine and moan about aspects of it, the real purpose of those remastered sessions was to utilize Rudy's unique POV.

Here's to one of our tribe's greatest sons...

RIP Rudy...

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I'll be firing up some Blue Note goodness shortly.

His recordings are consistently my favorites. There have been many records in the store I picked up and flipped over and saw "Rudy Van Gelder" and bought without thinking twice. I can't think of a single one that didn't captivate me. RIP RVG!

Our genre has lost a legend. Just cued up the RVG Edition of Somethin' Else by Julian... what an amazing recording.

RIP Rudy. This is really depressing and a horrible month for jazz. :( A true legend with an incredible body of work.

Just read his obit in the NY Times, very impressive. The things he saw & the stories he had to tell. I made the over/under on the number of albums I own that he worked on at 100. I think I will take the over. On behalf of jazz fans everywhere, thanks Rudy. RIP.
