Lentek Studio Monitors

I own a pair of Lentek Monitors that I purchased directly from the US distributor who was Discwasher back in 1978. I have been told that I need to replace the KEF B139 drivers by a local speaker repair house. Only problem is that they know even less than I do about these speakers and cannot find the parts. Does anyone know where I can find the KEF units. Any other Lentek monitor owners out there? These are truely fabulous units and I do not want to part with them. any leads or information regarding these great speakers would be greatly appreciated. I am also interested in locating the Celestion tweeters and super tweeters for these unit.

Welcome to AK :)
I sadly don't own any Lentek, but have heard that they're a great pair of speakers so I envy you
I got my B139s on eBay and so I would suggest trying there. I've also seen the Coles supertweeters pop up from time to time there too.
Good luck :thmbsp:

my IMF TLS50's are similar to Lentek although they don't have the B139, they do have the same tweeter and supertweeter. I did have a pair of Kef104's that used the B139 iirc. Keep checkin ebay like kenwoodlover says, and welcome to AK 535icar! :)

thaniks for the input. you guys are alright! I used to drive the Lenteks with my Denon PMA-700z amp, Denon TU-500 tuner and Denon DP-1700 turn table. Nothing fancy by todays standards, but this setup with the Lenteks plays beautifully. I had the electronics packed away for at least 10 years and when I powered them up everything worked perfectly. Except of course the Lenteks which I blew watching the Lord of the Rings. Who needs surround sound anyway??!!

Hello 535.

With your's appearing it appears that there are at least three sets of these in existence still. I acquired a pair last summer and have to say they are a magnificent speaker. I posted inquiries all over the web and got very few responses, they aren't well known. I was very fortunate that Nat on this site knew a little about them. His response convinced me to buy them.

Colin at this site ( http://www.hifiloudspeakers.info/index.html ) was extremely helpful with information and has dissected a pair so knows them well. He is likely to be able to help you find replacement drivers so I suggest you contact him through the site. I've also read recently somewhere that the B139 is still readily available in the UK though it is somewhat changed from the original version.

The driver complement is the B139 racetrack woofer, KEF B110 mid, KEF T27 tweet and Celestion HF2000 supertweet. The mid and upper range drivers are in a compartment above a nine foot two-fold line.

I have a copy of the owners manual, a review by gramaphone magazine and a few photos that Colin sent, nine attachments in all. I'll send them to you if you PM me your email.

Since the original pictures I posted were lost in the server crash, I'll stick a couple back up just to make everyone else jealous :D

Damn, you are a fortunate man! :thmbsp:

The woofer you are looking for is most likely the B139 SP1044. This is the 2nd generation 8 ohm version of the B139 design. It has the mounting bosses/ears on a cast magnesium chassis. This is different from the original all oval chassis.

These drivers come up fairly often in the UK and more than occasionally in the US/Canada market. Set up your ebay search for worldwide KEF B139 and I think you'll find quite a few. They are heavy so be prepared for a higher shipping bill, especially if you import them from the UK. Remember though to replace in pairs and keep the loudness control off.

Regards,

Bart

Absolon and Bart,
Many thanks for the input. Absolon, the pics you sent are identical to mine. I did, however, spray mine with a black lacquer paint to appese my wifes' decorating eye. I have the original US version ad spec sheet and I think I even have the factory's sine wave print out from when they tested my pair of speakers. If memory serves me right, the Lentek monitors could only be purchased as a matched pair, (both of my speakers have the identical serial number)
Absolon, my email is:ggsteele@comcast.net. I would like to see those attachments that you spoke about.

You also might be able to scavange a pair from a pair of KEFs -- oddly you can sometimes buy the entire speaker for less than the driver. Shipping might be an issue, but hey -- then you have a speaker you can pop a different woofer into -- either a small one on a blanking board, or a large one in a bigger hole -- and start filling up your house with speakers you don't really need. Which is the whole point of hifi, if you ask me.
Or you could have them rebuilt -- Meniscus might be able to help.

Here's another pair that didn't sell in the UK (I think Colin was bidding on these too).

He'll be disappointed.

535, I'll get the info off to you this weekend. I have to locate it on my Harddrive. Any chance of the ad spec sheet for me?

Seems another AKer has joined the Lentek club as well in the auction Bolly linked. Glad they stayed in the family.

So far, it appears that there are 11 known pairs still existing, 4 on this side of the ocean.

Seems the reserve on that English auction wasn't that much higher than the failed high bid. One owner now has two pairs; what a quad setup that would make.

Too bad there is no pic.

Studio 4s have been described to me as "squeaky" by someone who knows them. I haven't asked for clarification.

pics!

the seller revised his description.

We're up to twelve pairs total now in Europe and North America, serial numbers range from 5/1000 L&R to 5/1305L&R. It starting to appear that there were not a lot of these made. Would you post your's?

I'm not sure if you've seen the info mentioned earlier in this thread (another owners manual, Gramophone review, a few pics of the internals and crossover details provided by Colin), but if not and you are interested, let me know.

I've got a copy of your files already, thanks.

Looks like the Studio 4s didn't sell and haven't been relisted.

Lentek Monitor X

I also have a pair of Lentek Monitors so I guess the number known about is now up to 13.

My Uncle bought them in the late 70s and gave them to me about 6 years ago. A copy of the original brochure is attached. Note the price listed 556 GBP, a lot of money then!
Unfortunately I have not been able to use them for a year as my new house doesn't have a room big enough for them - they are big speakers! I've yet to find another set of speakers that comes close to them though.

Mark
