To be fair, I listened to Cohen as a teen, because he was all over the Canadian stations in my reception area. I hadn't listened in years, but happened upon a PBS concert of his. Didn't watch for long, pretty monotonous stuff, IMO. He's written some decent songs (Suzanne, Bird on a Wire...), though they're better performed by others. Again, just my opinion.

And as for Bieber being the "new Elvis," somehow I doubt it (time will tell), but Leonard is certainly NOT eating his heart out. He never aspired to that sort of career. It's the difference between an entertainer -- and a gifted poet who is trying to shed some light on the best and worst of human nature. Ya don't "shake yer booty" to Leonard Cohen. Conversely, regardless of whether Bieber writes or doesn't write any of his own lyrics, they are eminently forgettable. In fact, I am usually beginning to forget them even before the song is completed.
