Hi All,
Sorry haven't been able to let you guys in on this earlier but was hoping things would have been better by now. Lessa had to go back to the hospital last Thursday due to an obstructive process in her intestinal system. This has prevented her from being able to pass feedings through her system. We still haven't come up with the root cause yet.
She has been hanging in there with peripheral IV's for nutrition. The doc's had put in a PICC line (larger IV in her arm extending to her mid shoulder) but it failed last night and must be removed. Her only option now for nutrition is to get a central venous access line put in through her jugular vein in her neck or another vein in the upper shoulder, both having to be done as a hopefully minor surgical procedure.
I'm very concerned about the need for these interventions and our inability to get a handle on the gut passage problem. Lessa's remained in generally good spirits and has been relatively stable medically but its been a rough week for my wife and I. I just cancelled a business trip/conference I was going to in Bethesda, Md. so I could stay here with my family.
The power of your thoughts and prayers really helped her out in the past 6 months and I'm gonna pull in all the help I can find to get her through this. God willing, she'll make it through this with everyone's assistance and thoughts.
You guys are an extended family to us and we appreciate your support. I'll try to keep you appraised of developments. Please pray for her recovery and safety, her doctors and nurses, and our family. Thanks.
Regards,
Bart
