Let the arguements begin- Consumer Reports 1981 speaker shootout

i seem to recall that the standard of speakers in the early - mid 80's was generally quite high...especially for mid priced two way designs...and if only 8 points separate the highest from the lowest out of a group of 49 speakers then that is a pretty good recommendation for most of the models despite what the reviewer's preferences were... :thmbsp:

Exactly.

They basically said they liked the whole lot of 49 speakers- not one bad one in the bunch, though they did find some too eager to distort.

I'm a big BA fan, so reading that they felt this was the most flat, natural, and least distorted just was a feather in my cap. A reason for me to internally "gloat". :D

but if they said they hated 'em, then I'd have written them off as full of it. :D

Take it with a grain of salt, and for what it is.

And remember that in the end, (and isn't this obvious by now?) only your opinion matters when you sit down to listen.

Others opinions are only tools and stepping stones to get to your own foundation of thinking.
