Looking for an rta for under 100 USD. Looking at the technics sh-ge70. What about anything from pioneer. Audio source, etc.? Looking for nice big display. Only using for visual aesthetic. I won't be listening to audio through it. Other suggestions?

BSR SA-3X REAL TIME SPECTRUM ANALYZERS.

These units fly under the radar on Ebay and if you are patient, you can get them pretty cheap.

As TWTRTECH said Audio Control C101s are great. I have 3 of them. I also have a C22, C50A combo which is the same divided in 2 units, one the equalizer and the other the RTA and pink noise generator. If you can find a C50A (which is the RTA pink noise generator) you get the exact same light show for less $$$$. A few days ago one sold on Ebay for $50.

I'd like to also recommend the Audiosource EQone. As a proud owner of this piece of equipment I would recommend it.

Can google it up or just watch it in motion in Ferris Buellers Day Off

To cool to not go ahead & share.

I have an old Phase Linear model 1200 that has LED's and you can select the rise times, or averages, just peaks, or full bars. It is a functional unit to use with their parametric EQ, as it has mic inputs, and pink noise outputs. Only problem is finding one at your budget, but you never know it might be possible.

You still have that old Phase Linear 1200? Sick of it yet? :)

The BSR EQ-3000 has a nice spectrum analyser in it, as does the similar ADC Sound Shaper. Personally, though, my favorite 'light show' is an oscilloscope. I had a Philips PM-3231 dual beam 'scope hooked across my amplifier's the speaker outputs for many years. I recently picked up a McIntosh MI-3 "Maximum Performance Indicator" which should do a similar job. Here are some pics:
