phase linear and crown

i have a chance to pick up a phase linear 200 amp(first series) and a crowm ac150a preamp. anybody ever use the two units before i'd like some opinions on them and what they might be worth (i don't want to over pay for them). any input would be great. thanks.

The crown preamp is fine, pretty bulletproof and quite decent. If you are getting a phase linear amp it will deliver solid power. Some claim its only good for low-frequency drivers, but I never had a problem with larger phase linear amps driving the entire audible range. If the gear is linear phase rather than phase linear be careful. It might be white van amps, or it might be just a descriptor for another brand (technics?). As with anything, price is always a consideration. The Crown preamp usually goes for over $100, but I don't have a recent price on the phase linear.

whoops ya i meant "phase linear" sorry about that. both units seem to be in good shape. according to the owner they both work fine. plus they both have original wood cases. i,ve seen the crown ic150a has sold on "that" site for over $300 without the wood case. well i guess if nobody has anything bad to say about either unit then i'll most likely go and get them as i want a seperates set up. then i'll have to look around for a decent tuner. thanks.

here's a couple pics of the units i'm looking at. (not the actual units but same models) the ones i'm looking at both have wooden cases.

I was watching the Crown pre you have pictured in your last post in epay. $305 closing price I thought was too high and think they should go for about half that. The Crown pre's that seem to get that kind of money are the SL-1 and SL-2. That was a good looking pre though single owner etc.

The 150a's have been getting well over $200 so long as they are completely functional. They have been getting less when there is any uncertainty. They are definitely going for more than they did a year ago, when you pick them up for ~ $100 and matching D150's for as little as $75.
