Linear Tracking Turntables

I have the Technics P-28 cart on now while I am awaiting my EPS-310mc to be retipped. Although not their best effort, the P-28 is very good in my opinion. I absolutely love the SL-10. One of my cheapest but at this point most prized pieces of audio. And it looks like **** (a few scratches on front). A few folks laugh when they see it but that stops as soon as it starts playing. It looks like a toy but I assure you it isn't. The other SL-6 I have is no slouch either. It's where the P-28 came from.

My SL-10 is sidelined for a 'someday' project rebuild if I can get interested in it. The PL-L1000 is the "guilty pleasure" /casual player for the 'less-than' records and casual attentive general listening in it's stead, and uses a pretty good $12 stylus in a Shure M91 cart.

Worth the effort in my opinion. Hell, I'd like to find another as a backup someday.

I think my pair are still listed in BT somewhere, I have a pair of SL-7s if I miss them tho' they are listed also. So is my Souther/Denon combo come to think of it.

I will say again, they are (Technics LT) excellent record players... I know, the guys who spend big bucks on a tonearm deck may not want to hear this :para:

(Currently run an SL7 with factory Ortofon TM14, and a 1200 mk II with Ortofon 2mRed)
 
They are excellent if you can live with the limited cartridge options. I like my SL-10. It is my background music turntable. I only use it with LP Stereo discs only and it does sound great. It will never be my main turntable but I like it for what it does very well. I can recommend one if T4p cartridges are something you can live with.
 
I think that I have found a match made in LT turntable heaven in the Adcom HP/E ii cartridge that I recently had Soundsmith perform their Level 2 rebuild on. I have it mounted on my big beast of Technics SL-M3 and it sounds way better than I ever expected it to sound. I feel that the line contact stylus and ruby cantilever in place of the origianl elliptical stylus/aluminum cantilever made a huge difference.
I can't get enough of listening to this table now.
My other LT table is a Yamaha PX-3 with a low hour Yamaha MC-705 cartridge on it. The Yamaha sounds very good, but I prefer the Technics at the moment.

Now I'm on a search for a nice Mitsubishi LT-5v vertical table to add to the collection.

The Technics SL-10 / EPS 310mc combination is amazingly good. LT tables - especially the Technics versions - require maintenance before they sound really good. We're talking 30+ year-old turntables where belts have sagged, grease has hardened, switches have oxidized, etc. However, taking the time to restore an SL-7 or SL-10 can pay off in a big way.

I'll put it this way: my (restored) SL-10 / 310mc beat out my Rega Planar 3 / RB300 / Ortofon FF15XE Mk II combo. Guess which one is up for sale?

I would keep the 1400 for now and decide later which to keep if space is not an issue. I cured my Linear Tracking disease by doing such. After buying and selling different brands (a dozen in the past few months) and models of LT tables, I decided that I love Technics LT over anything else. Now SL-DL1, SL-L3, SL-QL15 dominate my rotation of tables. Next is to sell all my Thorens, Duals, and Pioneer traditional turntables. I have to admit I am getting lazy. I don't enjoy lifting the tonearm at the end of each record anymore. To mess with adjustment is no fun to me, either. LT is way to go for me. Fixing small problems with Technics LT is not difficult to me and once the initial check and lube is done, it provides smooth, quiet, convenient, and sonically enjoyable experience. Plus, the LT tables are still very cheap to buy.
