Linear turntable issue (Pioneer pl-L30)

Hello!
I’m newer to fixing record players and this is my first time trying to troubleshoot a linear player, looking for some advice .

it’s a weird problem im trying to figure out , power indicator lights up , but will not respond to any buttons pushed.

At first I thought it was a problem with the stylus assembly motor, but the motor returns the stylus to the home position when I manually move the assembly to the center of the platter ; so I’m pretty sure the motor is fine .

I tried turning the unit on with the stylus in the center of a record and pressing play to see if that would get any movement from the record but to no avail .

I’m not sure how the linear tracking system checks work, e.g if the stylus is suppose to move first then it’ll spin the record, or if the record has to be spinning before the stylus moves .
I tried manually spinning the player after pressing “play” but that doesn’t do anything either .

I checked the wires and capacitors on the main board and they all looked fine .

If anyone has any insight on how to fix this please share .
Right now I’m thinking about replacing the platter motor (pioneer pxm - 133) to see if that fixes it , but I’m not sure as the unit doesn’t even function when manually turned .

As you said that nothing is working, before stripping things down - There is a microswitch that signals that the lid is down, i.e. the arm is in the ready position. The unit won't run if that switch is not closed.
With these the platter should start when the arm carriage leaves the rest position.

I cant believe I didn't think of that ! I found the switch and saw the lid prong for it was out of alignment. Player works great now, thank you !

Great and neat turntable, imo. I have the same one fixed and working. It fits right on my office desk with a receiver. Also, lube the metal bar that moves the whole stylus around; I removed old grease and it feels more stable. Great find!

my technics sl-q6 had the same issue, but the plastic microswitch tang was completely busted off and i've seen other units suffer the same. it's possible to retrofit a contemporary microswitch and bodge it in place reusing the same unsoldered circuitboard, but it's not elegant.

Crappy TT.

A friend had the 'Luxman' version of the Pioneer that wasn't working. I replaced the belt on the tracking assembly to get the arm working played with a few adjustments and got the thing going. I also replaced the power caps and rewired the tone arm.

I was excited when i got it all together and ready to play a record and used my dust brush to get off the dust and the frackin' motor didn't have enough torque to spin the platter!!!!!!!!!!

OK, so I just played the record and the cart dropped like a stone onto the record making a horrible noise and me getting worried about the cart.

Overall it is made like crap - I used some dynomat to help make it sound better but it was of no use.

I gave it back to my friend who later sold it for almost $300!!!!! It was like throwing money away.
