Linn Inbuilt Phono vs Standalone

Hi there

First post here so please be gentle!!

In your opinion would the MC phono section of a Linn Wakonda preamp be better or worse than a Trichord Dino 3 phono stage (unmodified).

A customer once asked me if I could do anything to improve the phonostage in his Linn preamp, though I can't remember if it was a Wakonda or not (looked similar though). It was so bad that I though it must be faulty. Was it?
I told him I wasn't interested. Why buy a Linn and then ask me to improve it instead of buying something I made? If he'd bought a phonostage from me, would he take it to Linn to be improved?

Anyway, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Trichord performed much better.

That's probably where I am in this..

I have the Trichord already but it's running through a Linn Classik, but because I am pretty much only playing vinyl and have an LK140 power amp I am ony effectively using the preamp section of the Classik which seems (a) a waste of its other capabilities and (b) that I could get better performance from a stand-alone preamp.

I suppose I was hoping that someone would say that the phono section of the Linn preamp would blow the Trichord away which would leave me free to sell it on to fund the preamp purchase.

Think the reality is that I will get hold of the preamp first and test it out against the Trichord. Then decide what to sell ...(if anything)..

I really like my LINN WAKONDA phono stage ...never heard the Trichord...I use it with a Project 1.2 TT & Grado wood cart...
