Linn LP12 HELP!

Posted this in response to another thread I had started. Thought I'd try here too. I've got a Mac MA-5100 and an LP12 with Basik arm and Pearl cart.

Well I got everything hooked up last night and gave it a listen. I've found I have a massive "hum" coming from my LP12. The hum occurs when the volume on the MA 5100 is turned past a quarter up. It only occurs when the amp is on and it is phono 1 or 2 (whichever the LP12 is hooked up to) I'm a relative noob to all this stuff so it's pretty frustrating! One thing I notice is that when the tt is on and the amp is on the phono selection I seem to be able to pick up tv stations through the tt tone arm. I've heard something about cable tv interference. Maybe thats the culprit?

Did you use the grounding wire that's on the tonearm cable sometimes the arm
needs to be grounded. try that first

Just one of the joys of buying old equipment. I don't see a Linn dealer listed for Minneapolis, but, if you don't already have one you know and trust, you might check with a local hifi shop for a recommended service facility for your equipment. Then let them deal with the frustration; that's what they get paid for.
