Hi, does anyone here have knowledge of a linux based program to test speakers? Specificly something that lets me plug a mic in my pc soundcard and measure my system output? Or barring that, a windows based program that will run under Wine in linux? Thanks.

Give REW (room equalization wizard) a try. It's available as a free download from www.hometheatershack.com . I'm not sure if it will work under Wine but for free it's worth a shot.

You will have to sign up with hometheatershack to download REW but it's free

I'm succesfully using ARTA software running through WINE on Puppy Linux.

Check my recent posts with screen captures.

open synaptic package manager search for libgsm 1 ..i might have it wrong what you are looking for ...

if you don't have synaptic install it as its well handy ...

if not using gnome look it up and configure your machine for gnome ..
sorry for rambling on but it works for me .. gnome desktop ubuntu studio .. i just sorta muddle my way through it .
unity is a bad word round here:D

Requirements actually mentions linux. As stated in another post just need the Java Runtime. I'll have to check this out, looks cool and is something I've been looking for!

REW is the only thing you need for speakers testing. For commertial software similar in features you will need to pay hundreds dollars.

OK. I downloaded it. Now I just have to figure out how to get it to run in openSUSE 13.1/KDE. I'm not used to using .jar files to install something.

Unpack content into single folder. Then follow instructions in readme file. You need to start it from command line. Or you can create a menu item in KDE. Make sure you have JRE installed first: execute "java -version" from command line, it should show you version if your JRE.

Did that, did that, have that, but I'm doing something wrong, not working. I'll mess with it some more tomorrow before asking more questions. There's time. I still have to buy a mic before I can use it anyway. Thanks for helping me get this far.

Got it working just now. I didn't have the path correct in the command line when I tried yesterday. Again, thanks to all of you for the info and help.
