While we should all agree, a seller can ASK for anything, some times, it certainly goes beyond reasonable and, occasionally, what I think qualifies as absurd. I have seen individual postings here and there, but do we have an ongoing thread to document some of the more egregious offenders? As the thread title suggests, this is not intended to be a thread for complaining, calling names, whining, but for the occasional laugh.

**Moderator, I don't "think" this violates any rules, but please delete if deemed to be offensive or it were to go in the wrong direction.

To start, I ran across this CL ad this morning for some VHS tapes. While I know the Disney titles are expensive initially, I don't think VHS is still in such demand they can command such prices and they can certainly be had for $1 - 5 on eBay, so I would think this is a bit extreme.

VHS is cheaper closer to me. Here is one that has been up a while:

I have fishing rods and reels for sale all must go some of these cost over $500.00ea
I have lots of other stuff for sale everything must go no reasonable offer refused you try and make a stupid offer I will tell you to get the hell out
all these items and more are in my warehouse in Hueytown call between 8am and 5pm to set up appoint

Aren't "race cards," you know, . . .

This is true. I just sent some CD's and DVD's to Goodwill. Also vinyl, 45's, and VHS tapes. Probably only about 5% of my collection, but I need to pare down nearly everything I own. I'll admit, it's tough for me to do!

For example I had a VHS collection of Michael Jordan videos. Do I love Jordan? Yes. Would I watch them if I had a VCR? Maybe occasionally. Have I owned a VCR recently? No. They just had to go.

CD's were 90's stuff that was "okay" but I never listened to - Toadies, Cranberries, Silverchair, weird indie ****...all of it is on Spotify if I ever want to listen again (Spotify makes it a little easier for me to get rid of CD's I don't listen to, ever).

DVD's - I really want to pare my DVD collection down to my all-time favorites, and nothing more.

Vinyl - same. Only my all-time favorites and only in very good (or better) condition...working on it!

This is more relevant to the recent "minimalism" thread, but yeah...

I have seen some real "out there" asking prices on plenty of gear, so this thread should fill up in a hurry if it catches on.
 
There have been rumors and claims that the early Disney VHS tapes are worth thousands of dollars, and plenty of chumps trying to sell them for those prices on eBay. Prices on listings that actually sold are a different story.

Yeah, I saw that on my local news. They ran a piece where they said to "don't throw out those old Disney VHS tapes"!
They said certain ones were valuable. Not sure why, I changed the channel lol

Although Large Advents are selling at higher prices, a mint set with custom stands tops out a little over $300 on eBay, so for a local sale, this is unrealistic by a wide margin despite being "influential". I love Advents, but this is going above and beyond.

I've noticed in the last month or so, the local Goodwill chain has basically doubled the price on any audio kit.

I was looking at a modest JVC single-disc CD player recently. Don't really need it, but it feels like I'm gradually moving towards a more or less matched set of their gear. A year ago, it would have been $10. Now it's $20.

They had some ionteresting stuff yesterday, but at way more than I was willing to spend on something where I can't even take it back if dissatisfied-- two B&K preamplifiers ($70 and 120) and early black-era Yamaha (60 or 70) and Onkyo ($40 or 50) receivers If it had been half the price, I could have seen taking a shot on the Onkyo because I found its industrial design strangely appealing. But they're literally $40 units on eBay.
 
There are rules against Goodwill/Thrift store ranting, so don't want to venture down that path. Now, if you find a set of Thrusters being offered for $600, then please take a pic and post it (as a single example).
 
I'm traveling in South Florida and saw ad on CL for "Vintage Stereo System Complete w/Shelves - $3600"

I figured it was gonna be some good stuff (and there is some good stuff down here). Then, I read the details:

Uncensored version of 'Song of the South', suppressed by Disney. However, it was only available Europe, Latin America, and Asia on PAL tapes, and it's only worth $200-300.
