Here is an interesting thing to do: Buy two packs of the cheapest sandwich cookies you can find, one vanilla, the other chocolate. If you eat them in the normal way, the vanilla tastes like vanilla and chocolate like chocolate, given allowances for not being very good versions of either. Then try them blind, without knowing which is which. You will not be able to tell the flavors apart. And that's because there isn't any - the difference is simply caramel coloring. Eat enough of them and you will come across wafers that are half one color, half the other, and they will also taste exactly the same.
What is weird is that when you look at them, they taste the way you would expect they should.
