Listening to the Realistic STA-90

I bought a turntable a couple of months back simply because it is was $4 (Pioneer PL-7).
I did not notice the missing stylus until I got home. So I set it aside. No problem, I like CDs.

Yesterday I stumbled upon another cheap Sony turntable at GW. The table appeared to have lived a sheltered life and clearly had the stylus.
I also grabbed plastic grocery bag full of 45s, all for $8. I had no vinyl.

This evening I moved the cartridge over to the Pioneer and grabbed my Realistic STA-90 out of the corner of the living room, where it had been for a year.
I hooked up the receiver to a pair of B&W bookshelf speakers, and threw on 45 #1, George Thorogood.

Holy smokes! I had forgotten how good the STA-90 is! This thing stomps!
Super strong on the low end and clear as crystal on the highs, and very powerful sounding.

It's very reminiscent of my Sansui 771 but with more low-end strength and significantly more power.
Why did I even buy another receiver?

I had to catch myself and turn George down before I torqued up the neighbor.

The next 45 I yanked out of the bag was Waylon Jennings, "Buck Naked".

Now that would just be irresponsible... :)

I love my STA-90, it has always sounded great. I like my STA 95 more but the 90 is a great old receiver.
 
STA-90 - love the thing. Have connected to original 1976 Nova 8B's that came with it as a package. Nova's redone with new 3 way crossovers, mids (5.25") verses factory 3's, and heavy magnet tweeters. Powerhouse of bass!

I sold this beauty during one of the times I worked for The Shack and this was my favorite of their lineup at that time. I'd call it a sleeper. II would put it up against whatever any of the name brands offered at that time.

Another sleeper I remember selling, albeit at EJ Korvettes* a few years earlier (1967 - 68?)was a Rolecor receiver. I forget it's model number but it walked all over the Scott, Fisher and H.K we sold at the time.

I just sold mine. It was easily the equal of the two Sansui 881s I had. Lots of power and great sound. I like my STA 95 better but I would never turn down a 90.
 
Picked up a 90 as an upgrade to my sta-84 to run my newly refoamed AR38s. Love it. Everybody else...not so much but it could just be my dancing.
