Looking for some guidance on a new issue I am having with my SA-8800. At least I think that is the issue.

A few days ago, I stated to get random Pops out of my speakers, at first I thought it was the album I was listening to, but when I switched to Tuner same issue. Seems to go away after listening for a while. Today I turned on the SA-8800, I have a SG-9800, a SR-303, RG2 and a TX-D1000 plugged into the power on the SA-8800 so when I turn it on the rest also turn on. The selector switch was set to tuner and on the RG-2 I saw a single but nothing on the SA-8800 thus no sound, so I turned it off and then back on. It started working again, all good, then a pop out of the speakers and then no signal on the SA-8800 but signal on the RG-2.

The complete stack is

The Speakers are old Kenwood KL-999X, got the entire system new around 1979

The last thing that changed for this system is I added a dbx 200

take everything out of the system except for the amp,speakers and the source of your choice. listen to it like that for awhile and see that it still acts up.

it's most likely the amp but you have too many components connected for real troubleshooting.

Everything goes through the dbx200 except the PL-L1000 and if i turn off everything except the amp and the Pl-l1000 the speakers pop a bit, but once or twice but that it, and it's working the album is playing and I have a signal on the amp and stable sound. no more popping and sounds normal. It's like the amp has to "warm up" before the pops subside

so after some testing, if i just turn on the amp and not play anything at all i hear crackling from the left speaker. So i assum its the Amp.

i did the recap several years ago on this system, it was working but we just moved and maybe got bumped around, is there something I can look at on the system board?

altho, the sa-8800ii is plagued by similar problems...

they use small signal transistors that are prone to becoming noisy.

the 8800 uses 2sc1400 and 2sa750 which are the likely culprits. ksc1845 and ksa 992 are replacements

suggest that you replace all possible culprits in both channels

i am looking at the EQ Assembly diagram and it looks like there are 2 of each of the 2sc1400 and 2sa750 am i correct? going to place the order for the parts just want to make sure i get what i need. Thank you again for all the help.

i can only see what's in the schematic, you need to look in your specific unit and see what is there. often times what is in the unit and what is shown in the schematic are different.

go by what's in your unit.

there should also be 2-2sa798 in the tone section. they can also get noisy and those should be replaced by gain matched ksa992. there are plenty of threads on here about that gain matching.

btw, the eq assembly is the phono stage.
