Local pawn: $350 for a Bryston 3B (original series)

A local pawn is selling an original series Bryston 3B (not the later 3B's like the 3B-ST, 3B-NRB, etc.) for $350. I've got to stop by and check out the condition, but if it is in good condition, is $350 a good price for one of these? I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the value of a used original series 3B, as everything that I've found on the web for sale are the later versions of the 3B.

I'm almost sure original 3B's with the chrome handles sell for about $400-$500 in real nice shape
 
Pawn shops almost always will take less than the asking price...I would offer $250 and go from there...you probably can get it for $300, especially in this economic climate.
 
If in fine condition, offer them $250-$300 cash. In reality, worth more than twice that if in superb cosmetic and operational shape. Fine sonics and Bryston takes care of their customers even when they are second owners. A fine amplifier. A likely excellent buy!
 
Thanks, everyone. I'm going to go back and check it out and make a lower offer. It definitely wasn't in mint or near mint cosmetic shape (had some scratches and markings on the face plate and top panel), but if it is in superb operational shape, do you think it would it still be worth between $250 and $350?
 
Does anyone have any thoughts on how much cosmetics would bring down the price of this item? Because I just went back and checked it out and its got some scratches and blemishes on the front and top. But it sounds superb with the system they have in the pawn.

I left without making an offer because I have no idea what the value for this unit is with cosmetic blemishes. Would a used Bryston 3B that sounds good but has some cosmetic scratches and blemishes be less than $250-$350 in value? Should I go lower on the offer due to the cosmetics, like closer to $150 or $200?

Frankly, I'm not someone that buys electronics because they "look neat," so cosmetic appearance almost never factors into why I purchase something. Thus, I have a really hard time figuring out how much cosmetic appearance degrades the value of an item. The reason I'm concerned is because funds are tight and if I don't like how the Bryston compares to what I have or how it performs with the rest of my system once I get it home, I don't have the budget to be able to absorb the loss right now.

Here is the last one sold on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Bryston-3B-Ampl...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:4|65:13|39:1|240:1318 I would think if you can get it for $300.00 or less it should be easy enough to resell quickly if needed. Most of the time the top and sides are easy enough to sand and repaint if needed easily, the face with the bryston logo may be a little more difficult.

So, I ended up biting on the Bryston. Got them to go down to $300. In addition, the pawn took a pair of Kenwood JL-507 speakers that were dinged up off of my hands for an extra $20 (I doubt I could have got more than that for the speakers on craigslist). So, in total I paid $280 for the Bryston. Now it's time to hook it up and compare it to my Yamaha MX-1000!
 
I have heard positive comments about BRYSTON amps and pre-amps. I am eagerly awaiting your impressions of the 3B in your setup.

I had an early 3B (coil AC cord & chrome handles) but let it go. I have always regretted it. As you will soon discover it is a great all-around amplifier. I don't think you'd lose money on it if you decide to sell it either. $280 is not a bad deal for this amplifier relative to what you can buy new for that price.
