Logitech UE-6000 Noise Canceling Stereo Headphone review

So when the switch is OFF, no sound? That's strange.

I swapped my defective at the Apple store today. The 6000 in passive mode has such a shelved treble that with a treble boost, it doesn't even come near a Sennheiser Amperior, which is way far from bright. NOT recommended for real hi-fi reproduction. In active mode bass reduction makes a perfect bass, but people who like a soft treble will not appreciate the treble. It's great for people who like high fidelity treble though.

Since Innerfidelity apparently made the Logitech 6000 their favorite closed headphone in Passive mode, I did a direct comparison to the v-moda M80. The M80 absolutely kills the 6000 in Passive mode. The M80 has a soft treble and the 6000 sounds like a blanket is over the speakers. The M80 has a neutral bass with a strong bottom end, and the 6000 is boomy beyond belief.

Today's new surprise: Checking the test curve for the 6000 in Active mode, I expected to see a boost in bass and treble, exactly like the two samples I have and had. The bass boost is there, but not the treble. ????

I'm gonna spend more time with mine this week. Been busy with the new Sony XB series.

I think I understand how this works. People start with just a little extra bass or just a little treble recession, and gradually increase the bass and the treble rolloff, until they get used to the aural equivalent of what we called "body acid" in the psychedelic world. I could explain further....

I didn't hear much treble increase with the NC active. Bass is like a Dr. Dre headphones with NC ON.

Then what you're suggesting is all of these 6000's sound radically different. With NC on, my treble sounds like a Shure 1840. With NC off, it sounds like it's down at least 30 db, like a blanket over the sound. Or, it sounds like a Philips M1 or the new version Pioneer SE-MJ591 with NC off.

BTW, I've had two samples now of the UE-6000, and the sound of both are identical with NC on - very heavy bass, strong treble. With bass reducer on, the sound becomes excellent - the bass is still stronger than neutral or flat - similar to a Sennheiser Amperior, cleaner in the low mids but brighter in the treble.

just came in today.

I checked the Apple store demo of the UE-6000 in Passive mode, and it sounded very good, like a totally different headphone. So between Innerfidelity and I, that makes 4 defectives out of the first 6 UE headphones.

Is your UE6000 kinda wide with light clamping force?

Looks exactly like that, yes. Have you seen a different style?

BTW, I'm hanging on to my working (but very muffled) UE-6000 in case anyone wants to test it to see what the differences are.

Maybe you can send it to Tyll for him to measure it against his?
