That's the LP I ordered (from MusicDirect). It was on back order for the better part of two weeks and is now, courtesy of the USPS, somewhere between Chicago and Detroit. It's about a four- or five-hour drive, depending on how you drive. They could've just called me to come pick it up.

Plays Duke Ellington is worth it just for Monk's version of Caravan...noticed in the April 2017 edition of MOJO that Essential Jazz Classics released a 2 CD set of complete studio solo recordings from 1954~1962.
 
Gentlemen, my first new Monk LP arrived today (Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington). Absolutely superb!!! Thank you all for your recommendations. Now I have a bunch of other records I can queue up to find!

It's beautiful
Sound is very good (CDs) but lots of mic overload
Love to put this on while I'm working in the garage or around the house

While we're talking Monk, I gotta mention a guy I figure any Monk fan would enjoy, but probably hasn't even heard of; Herbie Nichols.
Give him a shot some time when you're looking to expand your jazz piano horizons.:thumbsup:

The set is from the early days of Acoustic Sounds actual production and the high performance re-issue vinyl market with all the details too like cover art
All tube chain and cutting, original tapes when available
Statement work, like the original stuff from Chesky, Mosaic and Classic Records
The late 90s early 2000s OJCs sound mighty fine too, but the presentation was just plain over the counter but the sound quality ranges from good to excellent
At around 10 bucks a pop back then you couldn't beat them
Never turn down OJC vinyl - I've never had a dud
 
There is a boxed set of about five CDs featuring much of his best work. Good recordings and superb value for money. I don't know if I am allowed to post links to other websites so I will refrain until told otherwise.

Appears to be a fairly recent assembly done by whoever controls the Riverside material in Europe and Universal
Got any details on the remastering?

No details on the remastering but a number of positive reviews on the website I bought it from. Sound quality is good though I have not heard other versions.
