Looking at a pair of KLH 32's this weekend, opinions?

Found a guy selling a pair of the KLH 32 speakers. I've read pretty much nothing but good things on them. He already replaced the old Caps, cleaned and polished the boxes and replaced the grill cloth. Pics look fantastic and he is setting them up so I can hear before I decide. He's asking 100 bucks. If all this is as he says, it seems like a very reasonable deal to me... What do you guys think? I live in a roomy studio apartment and I think they sound perfect for my growing little system and vinyl collection.

I assume the KLH 32 uses a cloth surround like the other KLHs. If so, I would ask if the seller re-doped the surrounds, and if he did, what did he use.

I would pass on any KLH where the woofer surrounds were doped with anything other than the RoyC or vintagear butyl stuff.

I couldn't agree more. In the past four months, I've restored two different pairs of vintage KEF speakers (Model 23 and Model 30). Replace those awful 50 year old caps and re-dope the cloth woofer surrounds with the goo from vintage-ar and they sound amazing. If you do the re-doping yourself, do so in a WELL ventilated area (like outside, if possible) and let them cure overnight before introducing them to your living space. It's very easy to do and doesn't take long, but the sealant is solvent based (I believe it contains toluene) and not something you want to be inhaling in a small, enclosed space.
 
My dad has a pair of KLH 32 that he uses with a Pioneer SX-424 on his (enclosed) back porch, when the weather is nice enough to be out there (upstate NY).
I spend time listening to classic rock and blues on that system every summer, and the speakers sound pretty good even bone stock. I would say they are good for low to moderate listening levels.
