Looking at some Kappas

Im looking at a pair of Kappas local that may need some crossovers worked on, apparently the tweeters are not working on one front and one rear. They are supposed to come with a extra set of crossovers. Would this probably be a recapp or is more involved with the Kappa series. Also how much amp would the Kappas need ? Would it be possible to drive them with a 125 watt modern AVR as I was hoping they might work out in my HT setup. Owner says all drivers work when the crossovers are bypassed (tested I suppose). I have read some good things about the Kappa Line,,,,, these are the Kappa 8s. Any thoughts, suggestions and experience would be appreciated as I might be replacing a nice sounding set of Infinity Primus 362s if I get them. Thanks!

With the 8's, the front EMIT could realistically have the following problems:

-blown fuse
-actually be blown
-bad potentiometer

and with the rear EMIT:

-bad self-resetting circuit breaker
-actually be blown

It's highly unlikely that one of the film caps or resistors would have gone bad.

If you get these, you'll need a standalone amp, and a relatively heavy-duty one (although the 8 is easier than the 9).

+1 on what cdfac posted, but especially that last bit. Do not even be tempted to try and drive Kappa 8's with a modern AV receiver for anything more than a background level test.

Thanks guys I was afraid of that, the power requirements kinda put them out of what I need right now for my HT and my Primus towers are doing the job but I was hoping to step up but since I dont have pre-outs I will wait. And they aint really worth the investment to be backups to my QLS1s.

Could be wired for a rear channel for the QLS-1s.

Still no tongue-in-cheek smiley face?

Looking at the crossover schematic on Infinity Classics site the majority of the caps in the crossover are marked PP meaning polypropylene film. Those don't go bad like electrolytics. Some are even labeled with the manufacturer like Solen and Wonder(cap). I'm not familiar with the NTE caps.

What I really meant is I cant afford them just for backups. Your right Grainger (IF) I had a proper room for my setup wich as you know would have to be much larger than what I have, not to mention the extra house guest. Anyway I would like to hear a pair. (someday maybe)

Put up a post if you decide against buying them ....maybe some other Infinity Aker will grab em....Pass the Karma.....
