Looking back at artists who died in the past year -- amazing number

One missed is Pete Huttlinger, sideman guitarist for John Denver until his passing, winner of the Winfield National Fingerpicking Championship (as opposed to the flatpicking championship), and Nashville studio musician on January 15, 2016. I took a Beatles workshop with him in his home in early November and my grief knows no bounds...

Sadly the next few years will have similar lists as many other popular artists are aging.

Not naming any names, but there are many artists between 55 - 75 that were not very health conscious in their younger years and that will certainly affect their llifespan.
Sad, but very, very true.

“The interesting thing is when I was a teenager in the ’60s listening to the Stones and the Beatles, very few people were listening to music from 40 years earlier,” says Randy Lewis, pop music critic for the Los Angeles Times. “But we’re still listening to those bands even though Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have come along. The music of the earlier rock generations has managed to stay current.”

Typical baby-boomer conceit. People were listening to older pop in the '60s. These people were called grownups. And the music of the earlier rock generations has not managed to stay current. Rather the people of the earlier rock generations have managed to stay stagnant. But it doesn't matter anymore because we now have the internet and college radio. Let the dead bury the dead.

No mention of Pierre Boulez? He was a great symphony conductor who received 26 Grammy awards during his long career. He passed away on January 5 at the age of 90. IMO he deserves to be mentioned at least as much as the rock and pop stars whose names dominate this thread.
