looking for a great cdp or dac

Hi ES347, no I don't own the Uni monoblocks at $48,000 :no:. I have never heard them, they don't ever seem to have them hooked up at shows. If I could ever afford them, I probably wouldn't have time to be on audio sites, I'd be off jetting around the world in my jet, or tooling across town in my Jag, or whatever rich people do D:thmbsp: I have the LM Triodes, which are actually at Von Gaylords right now getting new tubes and updated. I am actually thinking about updating to the Nirvana MKII monoblocks but I told them I would have to think about it first. I need to get my cd player next, I'm still debating between the MCD500 and the Audio Research dac7. The reviews on both of them have been stellar, that's why I need to listen to them at Magnolias before I make up my mind.
Vesuv1us, how do you like your MDA1000? I considered that too, but will stick to the MCD500 if I get a Mac.
 
Gregswaim, I do hope my decision is that easy in picking the cd player. As far as the amps go, I searched 2-3 years and listened/brought home many different amps before I decided on Von Gaylord (they were Legend Audio at the time). I heard them at the '98 LA audio show and knew instantly that they were the sound I was looking for. They have great after sales service too, which is important to me. I did listen to a couple of the Mac amps and loved them, it's just that I liked Von Gaylord better and they were more affordable. So I'm really not interested in changing my amps, I am very, very, happy with them.
 
Von Gaylord changed their name from Legend Audio to Von Gaylord because there was another company called Legend Audio (or something real similar) and it was confusing. Von Gaylord is the name of their designer, I guess he's from Germany. I don't know a whole lot about the company except they're based out of California and have been around for awhile. I just purchase their pre-amp about a year ago and love it too. I was thinking about a Mac pre-amp but decided to match my amps and pre-amps with the same company for better synergy. I listened to so many amps, that the dealers were getting rather put out with me for not buying anything, but I wasn't going to buy anything unless I knew it was something I would keep it for a long time, I don't update often. In fact I have never owned any speakers but Dahlquist, although this is my 3rd pair. Does anybody know if the Dahlquist are planar speakers, or what kind are they? I'm always worried they will die on me and don't know what to replace them with. They are so clear, crystal clear, and wouldn't have the slightest idea what I would replace them with although it will be similar speakers. I will never (hopefully) change amps, but would probably update my cd player in time as the technology warrants it.
