Already done will give a better test this evening…suggestions on type of light for that spot. Would the one on the top of the shelf be a problem too? I’m going to need some sort of light there..+1 on the led light. Nice catch @Nat.
It may be the wall wart. Some of these can put out strong EMI. Try disconnecting the the led light wall wart from outlet.
That rules out any electrical interference - the problem is definitely mechanical. Don't waste your time looking for electrical faults.If I remove the stylus it stops immediately.

Lol…damn auto correct..always does it to me at the wrong times…I’ve changed speaker positions a foot or so and the angle..helped quite a lot. I going to get some isolators..do some research and give that a try.. I was surprised the dust cover did reduce it somewhat..I’ve heard no dust cover is better..I will bear with you but I will NOT bare with you.
If changing the position (opening and closing) of the dustcover affects the feedback (which is what is happening) it's probably through the air and not structures.

I’ve been testing for the last couple of days and found I’ve been able to cut the feedback to almost gone.Leaving the dust cover off a turntable while playing records is one of the curious things about audiophilia. Normally, audiophiles are scrupulous about keeping records clean but, for some strange reason, many claim it's better to leave it off during record play, even though it leaves the record right out in the open to collect dust and whatever else is in the air.
And usually, as you found, the dust cover does isolate the arm/cartridge from sound waves travelling through the air. I guess it is regarded as a big resonant cavity inside the dust cover enclosure and that is a possibility but in reality, is not the case.
Personally, through experimentation, I find it causes little negative effect if the dust cover is closed. The positive is it keeps unwanted material OFF the record surface during play.

It is almost definitely air travel resonance..my speakers can be kind of boomy so I imagine that doesn’t help.
Thanks for your input, helps to hear others thoughts. Dust cover is staying put..it’s brand new aftermarket, makes TT look brand new.

I took things to a completely other level when my Kenwood KD-500 was experiencing acustic feedback lol.I think because of the suggestion s here and other’s knowledge and experimentation..we have come to the conclusion that speaker placement and the Ortofon picking up airborne resonance might be the major cause.
But I am still looking into isolation like the Vibrapods or similar. Actually I had been doing research into isolation feet/pads earlier but wanted to wait until I though they would be beneficial.



I’ve cured the hum I had by moving my floor speakers, strangle enough just a foot or so…it still comes back if I turn the volume passed 2/3…don’t need it that loud anyways..I'm having a similar issue with my turntable...lots of feedback if volume is turned up past 25%. I have two floor standing speakers that are probably the culprits. I just read another post where someone used a partially inflated bicycle tire tube under a board that supported the tt. They also used furniture cups with marbles in it and rested the feet of the tt. He also suggested using the cups under the speakers, as well. I would try voodoo if it would get rid of that hum!
I moved both to 6ft on either side of turntable, 1 foot from a framed basement wall and then turned them slightly more away from the TT, not ideal angle for the room but it works…I do think the speakers were too close to the walls and I was getting vibrations thru the wall to the TT shelf.Did you find you got better results moving them forward or turning them in a certain direction? My speakers move a lot of air and I'm sure they send a lot of vibration through the floor and air. I remember listening to a friend's setup in his barn. It was on the 2nd floor where he had 3 six foot towers on each side with an amp for each tower. The turntable was slightly in front and to the side but it was on a table mounted to metal poles that went through the floor into a concrete pad on the first floor. He had a chair positioned in the center of the speaker towers like the Maxell tape ad and there was no hum whatsoever! Of course, he's extremely hard of hearing now but he had a good time getting there.
