Looking for Cheap, Decent Vintage Receiver

I currently have a Technics SA-5370 that is having intermittent dropouts in the left channel. It is connected to a pair of small Advents. I was wondering if there are any particular receivers that I could find to replace the Technics with maybe even a slight "upgrade" in sound for about $100-125. I have read some decent stuff about vintage HKs - like the 330 or 430. What is a common price for these? How does the sound quality compare?

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's a good price range with LOTs of options, Should be able to get a wide variety of 30-45 wpc receivers for that kind of coin. A Marantz 2230 would be a classic suggestion and prolly run $125 or so with shipping.

Around $50 and very nice sound.

before you dump the Technics, clean the controls with DeOxit. i know of 3 different recievers that have had the left channel revived recently with a simple cleaning.

Amen to that. I've had lots of the slightly newer Technics models (SA303 and SA404) that exactly this issue, in spades. Had one '303 that required the switches be re-treated with De-Oxit FOUR TIMES before it would become stable... but after that, it worked well, for YEARS. Finally managed to get whatever stubborn piece of $#&^ out of a switch, I guess...

Regards,
Gordon.

I would clean as well.

If you are consideing HK the integrateds are not bad either.

Before I got into tube separates it was my back up to my tube integrated. les fatigueing than my Denon SS integrateds.

So how exactly would one clean it with De-Oxit? Take off the knobs somehow and spray, spray, spray? Or leave them on and spray?

Is this stuff not suitable for indoor use or is it harmless to humans and animals?

Are you loking old stuff, how about marantz 2216, and nikko nr-815 this is a good
receiver, amp/pre used.this available for good reasonable price.

to clean with DeOxit, obtain can of same, follow instructions found on can, do not deviate from instructions found on can.

To clean the pots, you have to pull the case and use the extension nozzle to get right into the body of the pot. The shaft usually is sealed; all you'll do is lube the shaft and not get any of the crud off the wipers and surfaces where the electrical contact is made. Look for a small hole in the housing and squirt it in there, work it full travel a bit and squirt again to flush. Do as many as you can find as long as the top is off, but some may be tricky to get to.

Good Luck!

ditto on the nr-815 ...

though you are a week late for the nikkos ...

.... last week saw a 9095 go for $22+ and a 1015 for $57+ (nothing worse than losing by a dollar)

... this land shark might be worth following .... you could play ping-pong on this baby

also try the "sort by/distance, nearest first" option and see if anything in your area catches your eye .... local pickup stretches your dollar .... and nothing is really ever quite the same after a ride in one of those brown step vans.

but ... i going after this "once in a lifetime" shot ..

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. I think I'll see how the Technics sounds after giving it a cleaning, and will decide from there.
