Looking for good to great (and affordable) PP OPT's

An advantage of the Dynakit transformers, as I recall, is that they allow ultra-linear operation.

Transcendar makes excellent OT.
These guys are truly an audio company, unlike other big names making...just transformers.
I've used his iron. But the prices have gotten higher sin e I bought some. $200 won't get you two OPT's.

And, then, there is the Edcor 25W 8k with 23% taps too, FWIW.
I've used Edcor 25w PP transformers with good results. Also the small 10w single ended OPT's with end bells sound good even though the freq. response is only 40hz-18khz. I just built a Dynakit ST-35 using the
Z565 OPTs and it sounds very good.

Have not checked prices for any of the lower rating/power ones, but anyone using Lundahl OPTs?

Haven't used the outputs but I like the interstage transformers, especially the amorphous core. A little expensive. Would love to try the amorphous OPT's someday.

I have a set of Edcor 25w on my Magnavox. They work fine and all, but my results are not quite as good as Dave's basically identical amp with the Dyna Z565 iron. The HF performance just isn't as good. Subjectively it sounds good, but never having heard it against the same amp with the Dyna iron I can't tell you if the "on paper" difference is audible.

I know many things factor into something sounding good, but to me the Z565 iron on the ST35 has more detail and clarity compared to my ST70 in the midrange. The ST-70 does has more grunt for a better word compared to the ST35 though. If I were ever to build another EL84 PP amp I would use the Z565 tranys. They sound very good for the money.

Is Transcendar back in business?
Yes, I found out 5 weeks ago and promptly order a pair of OPT and a mains transformer. FWIW about a year after I build the previous 6BQ5 SE amplifier (about 7 years ago) I discovered he was no longer in businss, never checked again until I found out by a fluke.

I sent an email to him shortly after he stopped making them. He replied he wouldn't be making any for awhile. I would just check his sight once in awhile.
