Looking for info and maybe parts for UNQ-7D tape deck

Hi! I have a long history in sound but have an even longer stint in high tech engineering. Recently a military 2 channel reel to reel deck followed me home and I have been cleaning and restoring it. It is a UNQ-7D made by Magnecord.

I was wondering if anyone has any detailed information on this thing which was apparently used in submarines for sonar and voice recording. I have the information from the Navy Radio site but it is limited and the control schemes from similar models is very different. Google AI claims this deck is similar to the 1028/1048 series but they are *completely* different animals.

At this point I have the audio and power wiring figured out and am awaiting some components from Digikey to get the power supply and various cards working again. Oddly, this has 4 ohm audio outputs; I would have expected line level.

The one part I will need is another threaded tape reel holder. Any leads? This may be similar to commercial/industrial models.

I have the deck working correctly using the local control but it doesn't do anything using switch contacts for remote control. Perhaps the power supply has to be working for relay power, although local control pulls in relays so maybe not?

I would like to get this thing restored and operational. The heads look alright and the capstan roller is still decent. Outside of it's aluminum case (which is drying at the moment from an extremely serious cleaning) it looks like this:

I don't know how much is different between the AN/UNQ-7D and UNQ7A but there is a technical manual for the UNQ7A, which you may have already found.

Thanks. Unfortunately they are very different animals. The electronics are entirely different with the A being tube and the D being entirely solid state except for the little CRT level indicators in the remote control (which, very unfortunately I do not have). The tape deck schematic may have some resemblance but isn't close enough to use. The picture of the remote with momentary mode buttons reminds me about that detail and I will have to determine why I'm not able to use a momentary jumper to get anything to operate. The remote control relays are 110 VDC coils and I don't see any meaningful voltages at the remote terminals, just some fluctuating AC and DC voltages there, so the 110 VDC power supply in the deck itself must be out. I have to rebuild the big electrolytics on the main chassis (parts on the way) and the ones in the deck may have failed as well.

The photos on the navyradios page is exactly the unit I have, I got it from Nick. It's almost unrecognizable now that I cleaned it up. I just think it would be cool to have it running again.
