Looking for Jensen System B

Hey Everyone,

I’m on the hunt for a pair of Jensen System B speakers. I’ve found a few, one in Canada - sold as soon as they were listed. A pair in North Carolina - the seller doesn’t want to ship. Lastly, there is also a pair in Michigan - I’ve reached out to the seller, but haven’t received a response. If anyone has any leads that would be much appreciated. I’m located in New York and I’m willing to travel a reasonable distance. Also I’m willing to pay for shipping.

What's special about them?
LATE 70S

MADE IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

A RARE AND IMPRESSIVE 4-WAY LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM FROM THE GOLDEN ERA OF AMERICAN HI-FI.

FEATURING BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED CABINETS WITH ELEGANT BENT WOOD DETAILS, THE SYSTEM B PERFECTLY BLENDS VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL DESIGN WITH WARM ORGANIC AESTHETICS.

KNOWN FOR THEIR POWERFUL YET SMOOTH PRESENTATION, THESE SPEAKERS DELIVER DEEP BASS, RICH MIDS AND DETAILED HIGHS WITH EFFORTLESS DYNAMICS.

SOLID CABINETRY, REFINED ENGINEERING AND A DISTINCTIVE LOOK THAT STANDS APART FROM THE TYPICAL VINTAGE SPEAKER DESIGNS OF THE ERA.

If the cosmetic appearance is less important than the sound, I'd be looking for Monitor B's, they used a better tweeter.

The monitor has a simpler non-adjustable pedestal base and polydax/audax tweeter.

The crappy pic is from a pair sold on facebook about a year ago.

Here's a prettier pair sold on stereonet back in 2017:

Best I can do is a pair of Monitor Cs without the tilt stands, about 80 miles from where they were born. They do sound pretty O.K. compared to a lot of other mid-tier examples I've had. The bigger brother "B" version should be similar, I would think.

Thanks, but I really just want the System B.

If you're still looking for the Jensen System B, there's a pair currently for sale in Montreal, Canada : This pair on marketplace. They seem pricey tho, and I have no idea if it is a reasonable asking price. Also, they used the same photos as you so, sorry if I'm being redundant and it is an ad you already saw.

thanks so much I follow them on instagram and when they first listed them I tired to purchase, but they told that they sold. I’ve since found a pair, thanks you!

Please update on your impressions once you get them and if you plan to change any capacitors or not. I own four pairs of speakers and so far have only updated one pair with new caps, although one of those pairs was also a kit that I built in spare cabs and that came with a new crossover... Those System B speakers just look gorgeous IMHO...

Got them finally. First impressions — they’re okay. Highs and mids are solid, bass is meh, but I planned to pair them with two powered subs to fill that out anyway.

Had to replace the rear tweeter on both speakers. I always bring “new” speakers to my guy to have the crossover caps replaced, but he missed that the rear tweeter on one of them was out, so I’m bringing it back. There was also a rattle I think I solved by swapping in a larger screw on the internal brace.

Still a few things left — I need to drill pilot holes and nail the sides on one speaker that’s splitting, and I want to swap the grill cloth for something with more personality.

I’m kind of at the f-it point with the cost though. These would’ve been amazing at $500 or less, but between $1,200 for the pair, $300 for uShip, and $400 in repairs — it’s not exactly adding up. Especially when my reference points are JBL L100 Centurys and Heresy IIIs, so my bar might just be unfairly high.

That said — I genuinely love the look of them.

Here are some pictures, excuse the mess, this is not their permeant space, just needed to test them.

Did you warm up to these after some time? There is a pair near me , but I've bought based on looks before and been hurt.

lol, I actually kind of hate them, way too bright, too many tweeters. It’s unfortunate considering how expensive everything ended up being. Oh well, you live and you learn. I did just get a pair of Jbl L250 which look and sound amazing
