Looking for nice pair of bookshelf speakers $600 budget: Need Suggestions

I was looking for a pair of bookshelf speakers too, I went to all of the shops I could think of trying to find something. Finally, Martha and I went up to Capital Fest back in July and found exactly what we were looking for. Legacy has a bookshelf speaker that blew away everything else that we had listened to. I know that the price is a more than his budget, but these could be a one time purchase that he will keep for years to come. He also might be able to find a used pair or a demo pair some place. These are in their premium finish (Rosewood) and they have pretty decent specs, and what I have found out is that the Studio HD's play very large, if you shut your eyes you feel like you're listening to a tower speaker.

I use mine for music only and they are in a system that is in my bedroom powered by a Sansui G-9000DB receiver.

Christmas is coming up here soon and I would love to get a nice pair of speakers for myself. If you guys could give me some suggestions of speakers you dig that you have owned/heard that would be sweet!

A little information: I like listening to all types of music. This includes everything from classical to electronic/dance music. I'll want a speaker that is pretty balanced, nice bass for the electronic stuff and accurate mid/highs for detailed listening. These will be going in my room for now, which is mid-sized.

There's a pair of ADS L-730's on the bay for under your budget. A three way speaker with ten inch woofers. Yes these are vintage, but i'd put these up with or above all of the speakers suggested to you. And all of those are great sounding speakers. Your budget will afford you to find a pair of speakers you should be more than happy with Good hunting my friend, and let us know what you end up procuring. Yes these are vintage, but i'd put these up with or above all of the speakers suggested to you. And all of those are great sounding speakers. P.S. The ADS L-730's are a bit bigger than today's bookshelves, but they are a wonderful sounding speaker. I'm using a smaller three way ADS which are the L-780's and I truly enjoy them. Enjoy, Will D.

I found some ADS L570 speakers in walnut on my local classifieds, for $100. He says at high volumes one of the woofers makes a rubbing sound. He said this may be fixed by rotating the speaker by 180 degrees or resealed with glue.

That L-730 is quite tempting. In the sweet range of my budget for sure. Definitely not stoked on shipping and paying $80 for it though.

I hear ya on the shipping, but in all actuality, that's not terrible compared to some of the other seller's you see there. Now, on the subject of the L-570's, I have a pair in factory black I bought at Magnolia Hi-Fi in south Seattle in 1985!!!!!! True story. Thay are mint, but they are going to be buried with me. It's a sentimental thing. But they are a two way speaker and there is NOTHING wrong with that, for they sound wonderful.et me say though, if you could find a nice pair of ADS L-810's, that's one of my favs. Or the L-710's. Right now im using the ADS L-780's, and I like them very much. Ive also owned L-630's but they seem to be somewhat hard to find. I gotta tell ya man, I NEVER MET AN ADS SPEAKER I DIDN'T LIKE!!!!!!!!! When you go on the bay, type in a/d/s speakers in vintage electronic's and you'll find more listings. Remember, they made speakers for three decades. My first set I bought new in 1977, the L-700's, I traded them back to Magnolia nine months later for the L-810's and O.M.G!!!!!! I was blown away. But like I said, I NEVER,,,,,, well you know. Bottom line, there are amazing speakers out there old and new, take your time and listen man. Will D.

I don't know where your located, but there's a pair of Infinity rs-4 floorstanders/towers for $80.00 on a local site here in Seattle burbs. I know nothing about these but they look like a pretty nice pair of speakes for that price. Also a friend of mine swears by Speakerlab 4's and 6's and 7's, and he's owned many high-end speakers over the years. He's got a pair of Bohlender Graebener speakers on Seattle craigslist for $340.00, beautiful pair. I believe they were designed by the individual that founded speakerlab or had something to do with it anyway. But as I said before, there are so many brands of great speakers out there it's mind bending to me. And you know i'm an ADS freak, like I didn't mention I've got ( along with the others I mentioned ) a pair of L-470's a pair of B-7's and four pairs of L-300's. If I had my way ( and the money ) id have a pair of L-810's, a pair of L-910's and at least one pair of the ADS towers or floorstanders the 1200 series or the 1500 series, I think 1590's I cant remember at the moment, but you get my drift. And I've seen speakers on the net I've never heard of that people say are worldbeaters, but i'm an old blue-collar guy that buy's what I can afford. Just wanted to tell ya, seattle goodwill eBay.com, that's where I won the ADS L-630's which I sold ( wish I wouldn't have ) but now there's a couple pair you might be interested in. Now if something on their site weighs over a certain weight, It's local pickup only. But check it out. A pair of Kef q-10's currently bid at under $30.00 with three days left $19.00 shipping. AND,,,,,,, A pair of B&W dm-601's currently bid at $102.00 with three days left and $19.00 shipping. And then there is a national goodwill site that is shopgoodwill.com it's also a bid site and from goodwill store's nation wide. I also won a pair of paradigm studio 20's from seattle goodwill eBay.com for $239.00 but I just sold those a week ago. Those Bowers&Wilkins might be a nice pair of speakers to be sure. Forgot to say, those B&W's are digital monitors AND they come with the original BOX they came in. I've never seen that before on that site, WOW! And they look like the previous owner took exceptional care of them. SUPER CLEAN. I've never even heard B&W speakers, but I certainly know about them. Happy hunting. Will D.

Just running music from a NAS at the moment. CD rips and some 24/96 files.I'm using an Onix SP3 tube amp.

No turntable for the home office system.
