Looking for nice pair of bookshelf speakers $600 budget: Need Suggestions

Christmas is coming up here soon and I would love to get a nice pair of speakers for myself. If you guys could give me some suggestions of speakers you dig that you have owned/heard that would be sweet!

A little information: I like listening to all types of music. This includes everything from classical to electronic/dance music. I'll want a speaker that is pretty balanced, nice bass for the electronic stuff and accurate mid/highs for detailed listening. These will be going in my room for now, which is mid-sized.

If you have any questions/suggestions please leave me a comment or shoot me a message!

Best regards,
Alex

Hey Alex!!

First off are you looking for new or Vintage? What will be driving them? Also, how much power are you planning on driving them with?

i have Kef Q100's and they are great speakers, they are not directional and really have good sound stage and fill the room also front ported and work great if you are putting them on shelves and not stands. They have really sweet mids and decent bass. If you go up a little in size the Q300's have a bit more bass. accessories4less has them at $299 and $399 right now which is a great price. They are not as nice as my Ls50's which really put out amazing bass for their size but they are very close in the mids and highs

I keep preaching these little guys but I have yet to hear a pair in person.

ELAC Uni-FI UB5

I have been running some UB5 speakers for a few weeks now. I think they meet most of the OP's criteria with good bass and accurate mids and highs, but to my ears they have a very clean and clinical, almost cold, presentation. They are able to handle everything I have thrown at them without getting muddled and are very detailed.

If you prefer a warmer sounding speaker than it may be better to demo them first, or order from somewhere that offers free or cheap returns - I ordered mine from Crutchfield and I confirmed with a CSR that it would be $10 return shipping.

I don't have a preference, just something that looks cool and sounds good! I have a Marantz 2325 that I could use to power them, also I'm thinking about picking up a Sansui 9090 to put in my room. I'll drive them with as much power as I need to!

discovered these for myself recently - Mirage 360 - absolutely superb speakers if you can find them.

JBL L96 are often considered a bookshelf speaker. They can be had in that price range and are exceptional. I did research before acquiring mine and it is difficult to find any negative comments.

There is a nice pair of used B&W CDM1SEs on the 'gon for less than your budget.

A nice pair of Epi100 and keep the $500.00 left over and take your wife/girlfriend out for a nice evening... ;-)
I think I just found a pair on my local classifieds. Vintage Classic Epicure (EPI) M100 Speakers <-- are these the ones you were talking about? Said to be in VGC for $65
