Looking for opinions on less popular brands of 70's receivers. Sherwood etc

So far I have a kenwood kr5200 and a jvc vr5551 on the way. I'm still crushing on a sherwood 7900a/8900a and the sansui 881. I'm sure I will be getting more,I'm just trying to pace myself.

Don’t discount the Nikko offerings as well. Nice sounding gear.

You don't see the Nikko name come up very often. My only knowledge of them is when one came in for repair. A couple of things noteworthy I remember is:

The top circuit board was on an edge hinge. Two screws, and it flipped up so you could work on it while powered up.
The selector buttons pushed long plastic shafts so that the audio signal stayed at the rear of the unit. (Ala Yamaha-ish.)
The receiver I worked on had the big square back-lit (green-ish) selector buttons ala, Alpine/Luxman.

I had one back in the early 80’s. I bought it used, used it for about ten years. Sounded great, then I had kids, then came 5.1 and the Nikko got shelved.

I’m still trying to forget what I did with it after it sat for 25 years! Still upsets me to this day, even if it wasn’t a TOTL or “big-name-brand” unit.

Don't overlook the Sony STR series, particularly the 6065 and 7065......Sony made some high quality gear in the 70's....built like tanks and very good looking with the real wood cabinets.....plenty of power for your mentioned needs.......also the Mac 4100 would fill the bill, but would cost a few bills as well.

I’d give my left acorn for the Sony STR 7065 I had back in my college days. Great sound and punched above its weight.

My Sherwood Receiver RV-503OR has served me well for many years. I have used it as my main controller, sometimes using it's pre-outs, for numerous systems.
