Looking for recommendations for pc speakers/nf monitors

A while back I bought my father a pair of Dual CL136 speakers. They were meant to be used in the office, but they are a bit too large to be sitting on the desk (plus the obvious fact they are not nearfield). And putting them anywhere else is not feasible, due to the long cable runs they would require. Unless we start drilling holes in the floor.

So I need recommendations for 2.1 pc speakers, or some smaller near field monitors.

Budget not declared, but we are not looking for fancy stuff for office work.

Much appreciated

What's the source? Small stereo? Computer? Big Stereo? When you say "office" and "near field," I would assume at a computer desk.

In the case of computer speakers, I'm amazed at the wads of cash people will plunk down for the like of Logitech over at Best Buy, when they could cross the parking lot over to the guitar store and have a far better pair of powered monitors for the same money. Even with the (necessary) DAC purchased, it would definitely be a better value, if not downright cheaper. You'd actually have a system with the proper input and output levels, as opposed to amplified computer speakers settling for a headphone output of a PC/Mac.
Of course, this may not satisfy the Point 1 part of "2.1", but it couldn't hurt to go over to Guitar Center and have a listen.

Forgot about the source. Either pc or an SMSL amp.

Yeah I knowm

Forgot about the source, apologies. Either PC, or SMSL Q5pro type of amp.

I noticed the prices/quality on those Logitech speakers.

I tried to do some research, but you know how reviews go.. Cant wrap my head around what to get.

The problem with "reviews" is that most of them are puff pieces. In the end, you still have to do the leg/ear work yourself for the best results. Hopefully a few pointers at AK push people in the right direction.
The Q5pro would eliminate the need for any sort of powered speakers, which means that you could have ANY speaker you like attached. I did the same thing with a second hand audio receiver fastened to the underside of the desk. but it's a big desk and I've got an optical connection between the computer and the receiver.
Being a devotee of the Air Motion Transformer tweeter, I'd cast a vote for the budget offering from Parts Express. I've heard that that speaker can be improved upon greatly with minor modification.
Parts express also packages an entire kit to hook up something better than average computer speakers to your computer. 2.1 to boot.

Thank you for the recommendations! But, the speakers you guys mentioned are rather hard to find in Europe.

Yeah, thats why I decided to ask here. I stopped trusting reviews a while back, about anything really. The problem is that there are not many stores in my area, so hearing in person is a no option.

There is someone selling the NHTs in Italy, but I would prefer to buy from a store, so they sign off the VAT.

Anyone heard these?

What about M-Audio?
