Looking for some subwoofer help...

I have a friend that received a pair of Snell speakers for free, with them came a Janis W1 sub and a very well built Isobaric subwoofer.

He did not have the space for the subs and gave them to me, I am very familiar with the Janis, but this one has me baffled... no pun intended.:)20221219_160945[1].jpg

Yes, looks typical isobaric. Inner and outer woofers. Refoam needed of course. (I have not heard isobaric. Let us know how it sounds if you end up using it.)

A properly done isobaric should have as small a coupling volume between the woofers as possible.
that looks to be the opposite so probably home made.

Cone to magnet is referred to as Compound loading. Similar in performance to Isobarik with a larger volume of air between the drivers.

These types of enclosures can play VERY low but at the expense of efficiency.

Carbonneau
That is what I thought it might be, but have never seen them with foam surrounds like that. Modified?
